Lakeland Dairies Announces Milk Price Hike: ICMSA Welcomes Increase

The Chairperson of ICMSA's Dairy Committee, Mr. Gerald Quain, has welcomed the decision of Lakeland Dairies to increase its milk price to 30 cents per litre. The board of Lakeland Dairies has confirmed that the price for milk supplied in June will see an increase in the base price from last month's base price of 435cL to 440cL.
Mr. Quain stated that the previous Lakeland Dairies milk price below the Ornua Purchase Price Index (PPI) was unjustified and that the ICMSA is pleased to see this issue addressed. The association had previously called for an increase in the milk price, arguing that it was necessary to ensure the sustainability of the dairy industry.
The ICMSA also welcomed Lakeland Dairies' previous decision to increase its December base milk price to 40cpl, although it said that the price still warrants being even higher given the current market conditions.
